William H. "Smokey" Greenwood Jr.
Salisbury, MA - William H. "Smokey" Greenwood Jr., age 87, of Salisbury, died Friday evening, November 29, 2019, at Beth Israel Hospital, after a period of declining health.
Born in Biddeford, Maine, February 10, 1932, he was the son of the late William H. and Marguerite E. (Wheelock) Greenwood.
After graduating form high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving during the Korean War from November 2, 1953, until his honorable discharge on September 20, 1955.
As a longtime resident of Newburyport, Smokey, as he was known by many, had worked more than 30 years for the Department of Public Works in Newburyport.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica Greenwood; his daughter, Dorothy Marr and husband Donald; his son, William H. Greenwood III and wife Susan; his three grandchildren, Scott and John Greenwood and Courtney Marr; his great-grandson, Seth Greenwood; his sister, Charlotte Poirier; along with extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his children, Dorothy A. MacLeod; along with his brother, George Greenwood.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, December 6, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, immediately followed by services at 7 p.m. with military honors. Burial at the Old Hill Cemetery, Newburyport will be private for the family.

Sorry for your loss. Smokey was a great guy. I remember bowling against him many times at the Port Rec.
