Newburyport, MA - Sheila M. (Abbott) Waldman, 86, of Newburyport, died peacefully at Avita of Newburyport, on October 2, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Col. Francis J. Waldman Jr. who died in 2009.
Born in Lowell on September 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Hazel (Sharkey) Abbott. She grew up in Arlington, Mass., and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass. Later in life Sheila completed an A.S. in Accounting and supervised Tax Accounting for a Mortgage company in Falls Church, Va.
Sheila, an avid reader, gourmet cook and artist, was first a devoted mother and wife whose husband Frank was a career officer in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Colonel. She managed her family through 14 moves throughout the United States and Germany, retiring to the greater Washington, D.C., area before finally settling in Stuart, Fla., and ultimately Newburyport, Mass. She was well loved and cared for by the staff at Avita of Newburyport.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia "PJ" Corson and husband William "Bill" of Hampton Falls, N.H., and Newburyport; a son, Francis A. "Frank" Waldman and wife Claire of Stoneham; five grandchildren, Caroline, Bevin and Erin Waldman, and Justin and Ben Corson; a twin sister, Mrs. Patricia Louise Peck of York, Maine; three nieces, Deborah DeLorey Davis of Atlanta, Ga., Catherine (Peck) Carew of Hope Sound, Fla., and Cynthia (Peck) Maloney of South Berwick, Maine; six nephews James Peck of Stuart, Fla., Charles Peck of York, Maine, Steven Peck of Ann Arbor, Mich., David Peck of York, Maine, Michael DeLorey of Chicago, and David DeLorey of Chicago. She was predeceased by her older sister Mrs. Anne DeLorey of Oak Brook, Illinois.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at All Saints Anglican Church, Friend Street, Amesbury, on Saturday, November 23, at 11 a.m. Private burial in First Parish Cemetery in York, Maine.
