Newburyport - Robert Orem, 79, of Amesbury, Mass., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2020. Bob was beloved husband of JoAnn Orem, loving father of Karri Isidoro and husband Rico of North Andover, Matt Orem and wife Shane of Newburyport, and Kim Mottley and husband Fred of Andover, and devoted grandfather (Papa) to Olivia, Andrew and Abigail Orem, Gavin and Hannah Mottley, and Maverick Isidoro. He was predeceased by his parents Ray and Roberta Orem; his brother Thomas; and leaves behind his brother David; four nieces and a nephew.

Above all else, Bob loved God, and his wife and children. He met the love of his life in college in California, before attending the University of California at Berkeley for law school. He practiced law for 36 years, including a rewarding career as General Counsel of Stone & Webster Engineering.

Bob was an avid tennis and pickleball player, who loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, watching sports (especially those involving his grandchildren and New England teams), and working out (he could hold a four-minute plank). He had a servant's heart, and gave much back to the community, including helping at Habitat for Humanity, Our Neighbor's Table, and Hope Community Church in Newburyport, where he was a member.

Bob started every day with a devotional scripture reading, finding this to be the best way to guide the day ahead. He was an incredibly wise, gentle, patient, loving, generous, joyful, and caring man, slow to speak, quick to listen, and eager to pray, who leaves behind an incredible legacy of love.

A private graveside service will be held for the family, and a Celebration of Life memorial service at a later date.
