Newburyport, MA - Robert F. "Bobby" Donahue, age 91, longtime resident of Merrimac, died peacefully Tuesday morning, October 1, 2019, at Country Center Nursing Home in Newburyport.
Born in Merrimac, May 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Patrick J. Donahue and Annie (Clough) Frost Donahue and was a graduate of the former Merrimac High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army on December 16, 1946, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge on June 4, 1948, as Private First Class, and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
After his military service, Bobby went to work at Western Electric.
He was a very kind-hearted individual, who truly loved the simple things in life-a warm smile, a sincere "Hello," a gentle summer's breeze, feeding the birds and squirrels, and enjoying the rest of nature's pure beauty. He especially loved going to the local area beaches, where he would spend countless hours watching and feeding the seagulls, earning himself the nickname of "Bird Man."
During his last years at Country Center, he enjoyed the comradery he shared with the nurses, the aides and the residents, and was so thankful for all the kindness that was extended to him.
Bobby leaves behind several generations of nieces and nephews, including his nephew, Larry R. Frost and his wife Kathy, and his niece, Judith Macleod and husband Duncan, along with extended family, and a very dear friend, David O'Bara. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Blanche Frost, Mary Louise Donahue, Marjorie Arlene Donahue, Richard Donahue and Clyde Frost.

A period of visitation will be held Friday, October 4, 2019, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, immediately followed by funeral services and burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amesbury. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making a donation in his memory to the animal charity of your choice.
