Richard "Dick' Cronin Obituary

Newburyport - Richard "Dick" Cronin, 85, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Dick was born on December 10, 1940, in South Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in Newburyport on Congress Street. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and went on to attend Merrimack College, where he earned a degree in Business.

At the Immaculate Conception (the I.C.) he would meet a core group of friends who he would stay close with for his entire life. He stayed especially close with Mike O'Connell, Harry Kalashian, Buster Tarbox, Larry "Bear" Currier and Joe Healey.

From 1960 to 1962, Dick served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he received a Good Conduct Medal. Stationed in Alaska during his service, he developed a deep appreciation for the rugged beauty of the region and often spoke fondly of his time there.

Dick had a sharp mind and an insatiable curiosity. A voracious reader, he could often be found with a book in hand—frequenting the Newburyport Public Library and devouring several books each week. He especially enjoyed gritty detective novels and crime dramas. His love for storytelling extended beyond books to television and film, where he appreciated complex characters and compelling narratives, with favorites including *The Wire* and *Breaking Bad*.

A devoted sports fan, Dick followed the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins with great enthusiasm, never missing a game. Whether it was game day or off-season speculation, he relished every moment of being part of the fan community.

Travel was another passion that enriched Dick's life. He made several memorable trips to Washington D.C., Montana and Ireland—places that captured his imagination and gave him lasting memories. These journeys reflected his adventurous spirit and appreciation for both heritage and natural beauty.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife Suzanne; his sons Justin and Kevin; and Kevin's wife Cindy. His family was a constant source of pride and joy throughout his life.

May Richard's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who shared in his journey.
