Raymond (Rusty) Brown Obituary

Salisbury - Salisbury - Rusty died unexpectedly at the Portsmouth Hospital on August 21, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 10, 1946 at Anna Jaques, the only child of Raymond and Elizabeth (Pond) Brown. He grew up on Plum Island, attended the Brown and Jackman Schools, and graduated with the Newburyport High class of '64. He served in the National Guard after graduation, worked as a shipper, later a machine operator for Chase Shawmut for many years.

He was married to his high school sweetheart who was the love of his life, Kathy Wall. Together they shared 56 years of marriage.

He was an avid car enthusiast, spending hours poring over car magazines, building model cars, and later collecting them. He loved Bob Dylan, John Wayne, and watching hockey and old movies. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved and was blessed to have many lifelong close friends, with whom he had many adventures. No one ever had a doubt where he stood on issues. He enjoyed trips to National Parks, Prince Edward Island, all over New England, South Carolina, and Maui. He recently celebrated his 79th birthday on Martha's Vineyard, going on a Pirate ship adventure and kayaking with his grandsons.

His absolute passion was his family. He spent the better part of 50 years first coaching his son Eric throughout youth hockey, then attending his games in college and beyond, most recently watching him play in the Chowder Cup this past May. That tradition continued when to his joy his beloved grandsons, Trent and Flynn, began playing hockey. He was a boisterous cheerleader at their games, on occasion, instructing the referees from the stands on the rules of the game. He loved visiting the kids' locker room afterwards, regardless of a win or loss, to congratulate the team, especially the goalies.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, son Eric, daughter-in-law Alison, sister-in-law Stephanie (Wall) Roy, nephew Ben Roy, and his most cherished grandsons, Trent and Flynn.

These two boys were Rusty's heart. If you'd like to do something to honor his memory, please contact a family member for the link to donate to their college funds.

A celebration of his life will be held on September 9th at the Newburyport Elks Club from 4-8pm.
