Raymond - Peter M. Richard of Raymond, N.H., passed away peacefully Jan. 8, 2021, with his loving wife Faith by his side. He was born July 26, 1943, the son of the late George and Grace (Carson) Richard of Newburyport, Mass. A proud 1961 Newburyport High School graduate, he went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Accounting, at the University of Massachusetts. Peter, a Vietnam veteran, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Laotian Linguist. He went on to a long career as a Controller for both Gould Shawmut in Newburyport, Mass., and Blodgett Oven Company in Essex Junction, Vt. During his years in Newburyport he met Faith, his future spouse and the love that would walk by his side for the next 31 years. Hand in hand they enjoyed a life filled with love, travel, visiting friends and family along the way and a mutual passion for lighthouses. They volunteered together for the Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse in New Castle, N.H. They pride themselves with having seen many lighthouses on the east coast and elsewhere in their travels.
They found themselves settling in Underhill, Vt., and six years ago moved to Raymond, N.H., to be closer to their ever growing family. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Epping, N.H., where he joined the Knights of Columbus and served as co-chair of the Tootsie Roll campaign, dedicated to raising funds for intellectually challenged students.
Peter had a passion for model trains and looked forward to his many hours spent with the Bedford N.H. Boomers Train Club. Later in his life Peter reconnected with his high school friends at the Newburyport Senior Center for Monday coffee. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his expanded family. In addition to his wife Faith, he is survived by his daughters, Kimberly McCarthy and husband Gregory, Kelli True and husband Scott, Jennifer McGibbney and husband Michael, Lisa Poulin and husband David and his sons, Frederick Berry Jr. and wife Loreta, Kevin Berry, Christopher Berry and wife Kristin, and Michael Berry and wife Sasha and predeceased by Deborah (Emond) Berry. He was Grampy and Pappy for 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Paul Richard Sr., wife Susan and their children Wendy and Paul Jr. He leaves behind his very dear lifelong friends, Bob and Linda Maguire. Peter will fondly be remembered for his good nature, joyful spirit, his devotion to his faith in God and his ever present optimism, even when faced with a diagnosis of cancer. Our family is forever grateful to the wonderful and caring staff at Exeter Hospital and Merrimack Valley Hospice.
