Newburyport - Nancy G. (Goodwin) Rubinstein, 74, of Newburyport, and formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday morning, November 3, at her residence.
She was born in New Haven, Conn., June 23, 1945, daughter of the late Louis and Florence (Blumenthal) Goodwin.
Educated in the New Haven school system, Nancy earned her bachelor's degree from Smith College, Northampton, and her master's degree from Boston University.
She worked at Emmaus in Haverhill for over 20 years, starting as a social worker and a member of the founding team when Emmaus was one emergency shelter and retiring as the Clinical Director when Emmaus consisted of multiple homeless shelters, transitional housing units, permanent housing units, and other supportive programs.
She resided in Haverhill from 1975 until 1988 when she moved to Newburyport.
She was a member of the Newburyport Choral Society and enjoyed walking, biking, antiquing, and gardening.
Her survivors include two daughters, Sally Rubinstein and her wife Kelly Unsworth of Newburyport, Ann Rubinstein and her partner Mary Adèr of Oakland, Calif.; a brother, James Goodwin of Kennebunkport, Maine; a sister, Andrey Wax and her husband Robert of Scarsdale, N.Y.; a step-granddaughter, Rosie Donnelly; three nieces, and a nephew.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday morning, November 6, at 11 a.m., at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill. So sorry about this sad news. Nancy was a lovely woman who married my college roommate and we and my late wife shared good times together. My condolences to Sally, Ann and the Goodwin family.
