Matthew Thomas Cahill Obituary
Newburyport - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother Matthew Thomas Cahill on March 31, 2026 at his home in Piedmont, SC with his wife, Maria Victoria Tiongson Cahill by his side.
Matthew, who preferred Tom/Thomas, was born in Newburyport to Robert Edward and Dorothy Ann Jones Cahill. Thomas grew up on Prospect Street in the South End, forming many fond memories and making many lifelong friends. Thomas attended Newburyport public schools and graduated from Whitter Vo-Tech. Thomas joined the Navy after high school serving from 1976-1980 on the USS Reeves CG-24 stationed in San Diego California. Thomas was a proud U.S. Navy veteran. Thomas spent many happy years living in Torrance California raising his two cherished daughters Tamara Jean and Ashlie Renay with their mother Ellen (Ginger) Randall Cahill. Thomas worked for over 30 years as a diesel mechanic for Waste Management. He was also an avid Boston Celtics and New England Patriots fan which he passed on to his daughters.
In addition to his loving wife Maria and his beloved daughters Tamara Meikle and husband Kenneth and Ashlie Hargenrater and husband Gregory he is survived by his beloved grandson Matthew Palmer; his stepsons Tobin Angelo Famatiga and Paul Justin Siojo; his brothers Lawrence, Brian and Mark and his sisters Deborah Murphy and Marylouise Welch. Funeral services will be held at a later date with burial in the Olde Hill Burying Ground.
