Mary (Morin) Bright Obituary

Rowley - Longtime Rowley resident Mary (Morin) Bright died of COVID-19 on November 8, 2020, at Port HealthCare Center in Newburyport. She was 86.

Mrs. Bright was born in Winthrop in 1933 to Louise Devlin and Arsene Morin. She attended parochial school in East Boston, graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston's South End, and then completed her training as a registered nurse at the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing.

After graduation she married Thomas R. Bright in 1958 and they lived briefly in Everett before buying a home in Rowley, where she lived for 60 years. Her husband predeceased her in 2010.

Mrs. Bright worked as a surgical nurse at Boston's Lahey Clinic and then worked as a floor nurse at the Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich after moving to the North Shore. When the hospital closed in 1980 and was acquired by Beverly Hospital she managed the freestanding Cable emergency room, medical laboratory and radiology service in Ipswich until her retirement in 1992.

During her semi-retirement she worked as a part-time employee and then as a volunteer at the Rowley Free Library, delivered Meals on Wheels, and served on the Rowley Council on Aging. She particularly enjoyed trips arranged by the senior center. "Mar" had a unique style and those with experience as passengers in her car were amazed that she lived to see old age.

Mrs. Bright was the adopted grandmother of Sam Ziegler of Rowley, Scott Ziegler of Amesbury and Lia Ziegler of Lowell. She also leaves her dog Chelsea.

A brief, socially-distant memorial will be held at Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, on Thursday, November 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed and are asked to wear masks.
