Newburyport - Mabel Frances (Van Amburgh) Jancewicz, passed away surrounded by family at her home in Newburyport on Friday, April 4, 2025.
She was born eldest of five children in Newburyport on April 13, 1928 to the late Ralph and Winifred (Black) Van Amburgh. She was a lifelong resident of Newburyport and attended Newburyport Schools.
She was employed by Kent Wood Heel, Hytron, and Esbensen's Bakery over her working career, but being a Homemaker and Stay at Home Mom to her 6 children was her most cherished occupation. In her spare time she enjoyed polka dancing, roller skating, knitting, and sewing. In her later years she volunteered at Anna Jaques Hospital and in the Newburyport Mayors Office.
Mabel was the wife of Edward J. Jancewicz for 51 years prior to his death in 2002. She is survived by her children, Stephen Jancewicz, Jean Bashaw of Newburyport, John Jancewicz of Amesbury, Karen Atherton of Plum Island, Patricia Spalding and Kenneth of Newburyport, and Paul Jancewicz of Seabrook, NH; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Mabel was predeceased by her grandson, Michael S. Bashaw, her son-in-law, Peter Atherton, and her 4 siblings, Ida (Helen) Van Amburgh Rowe, Elizabeth Van Amburgh Smolski Stone, June Van Amburgh Newman, and Ralph Van Amburgh, Jr.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950. Mabel's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
