Newburyport - Newburyport - Kathleen Anne Longworth (Mackay), sadly passed away on July 17, 2025. Born August 11, 1960, in Amityville, NY to the late Patricia and Donald Mackay, Kathy spent her childhood years in Bohemia NY. After the sudden passing of her mother Patricia, Kathy at age 15, moved to Newton MA to live with her uncle and aunt Dr. Samuel and Betty Klauber and their two children Eric and Nancy
Kathy graduated from Newton North High School with honors in 1978 and in 1981 settled in Newburyport, MA to start a life and family with her husband, Donald Longworth. Kathy attended Northern Essex Community College graduating in 1998 with high honors with a degree in Health Information Technology. She was Treasurer of the Health Information Technology Club and a member of the Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society. Kathy was a certified Aerobic Instructor teaching classes in the early 90's. She spent decades working as a Medical Records Coder at local hospitals including Anna Jacques, Beverly, Portsmouth Regional and the Hunt Center. Kathy was confirmed at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Boston on May 6th 1995. She was a member of the Alter Guild at Saint Paul's Church in Newburyport and a Lay Eucharistic Minister bringing eucharist to shut-in's unable to attend church.
A loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and dear friend, Kathy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Donald A. Longworth; her three children, Jennifer L. Longworth, Steven A. Longworth (Jenna Blum), Katelyn M. Zirin (Max Zirin); her beloved grandchildren that she swooned over, Tessa M. Zirin, Louis A. Zirin, Lilah M. Zirin, and Tatum M. Jones. She is also survived by her siblings Reginald Mackay, Patricia Bellion, Donald Mackay and her many friends that she loved like family.
Kathy shared a deep love for the ocean and cherished her early summers staying in Montauk near the beach with her grandmother Mabel Roesch. Later, annual summer trips to Montauk with her family became a tradition. She always made sure to roll the car window down and take a deep breath of the salty air as soon as she reached the Old Montauk Highway.
Kathy has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on all that had the pleasure of being in her orbit and she treated so many of her children's friends as her own. She opened her home to anyone that needed it. Everyone was always welcome.
She put up a long, grueling fight against sinus cancer and the side effects of the treatments over the course of three decades. Her will to live was unwavering but unfortunately, she lost her battle in the early morning hours of July 17, 2025. May there be comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain and that her memory will live on through her family and friends for eternity.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday August 20, 2025 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950.
