Georgetown - John "Sonny" Anthony Moretti died peacefully on May 5 surrounded by his family, after a long battle with multiple illnesses. Born in 1942, John grew up in Malden, MA, and later moved to Georgetown with his family. From 1964–68, he served in Vietnam in the US Navy aboard the USS Enterprise as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. Upon leaving the service, he started Moretti Roofers in Georgetown and over the next 40 years expanded the company to custom building as Moretti & Sons. His love of his town and his craft will long be evident by his work in countless homes and businesses throughout Georgetown and neighboring towns. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Annette, his wife of 51 years, Sharon; and their six children, Dorian, Kirsten, John, Antoinette, Kristina, and Mathias. Fondly known as Grandpop, he will also be missed by his 15 grandchildren: Ashley, Hannah, Jacob, Thaddeus, Elias, Nathaniel, Pia, Cera, Isaiah, Giovanni, Aaron, Leah, James, Domonic, and Joseph; and four great-grandchildren, Colin, Aria, Harry, and Eva. A man of kindness and grit, John leaves behind a legacy of deep love for his family and community through his hard work and unwavering dedication.
Family and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover, MA 01845. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 10 a.m., also at the funeral home. A burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery in Georgetown.
