Newburyport - John S. Sauvan, 91, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026 at Port Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

John was born on July 3, 1934, in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

He was the son of the late Carl and Grace (Carey) Sauvan of Newburyport, Massachusetts and a graduate of Newburyport High School and was on the NHS Football Team throughout his high school years.

After high school he served in the United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia for 4 years, and he made his home there for the next 60 years with his wife and daughter.

John is survived by his loving partner Aurelie Sauvan of Newburyport, MA who will miss him dearly and also his niece Denise (Sauvan) Sarofian of Raymond, NH who he adored with his whole heart and she will forever miss him.

He loved watching his New England Sports Teams, mostly the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, never missed a game on TV but if he did he always recorded it so he could watch later.

He was the devoted husband of the late Alita (Snyder) Sauvan who passed on September 26, 2009, and the father of the late Teresa (Sauvan) Willis who passed on February 12, 2015.

He also leaves behind his Son-in-law Steve Willis of Florida who he loved dearly, and a very special friend Joan from Virginia who he has been friends with for over 70 years and her late husband Ronald who passed away last year. He also leaves behind many friends at The Sullivan Building in Newburyport, MA where he previously lived. Leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his friends, the wonderful nurses at Port Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center who took such great care of John the whole time, and to say that his family are very thankful for such kind compassionate people that were there for us during this very difficult time.

He enjoyed cross-stitch, playing cribbage, dominoes, fishing and loved getting together with his brothers to play golf. He camped every summer at Black bear Campground in Salisbury, Massachusetts.

John is predeceased by his 8 siblings, Carl Jr. (Sonny), Grace Walker, May Madigan, Elizabeth Danilecki (Betty), Myrtle Scourletis, Donald, Patricia Rogers and Eugene.

A private burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Sauvan's family with his arrangements.
