Joanne Edith (Collins) Skerry Obituary
Salisbury - Joanne Edith Collins Skerry died early on March 21 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Mass. Her three sisters, Elaine, Janice and Margie, whose love and support Joanne treasured, were with her in spirit, ensuring her a gentle passage. Born and raised in Newburyport, Joanne was a proud member of the Newburyport High School class of 1968. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Yolanda (Zani) and Ralph Collins.
Joanne received her MBA, which led to a long career in business, including work at Sylvania, Wang and Schawbel Companies. Her colleagues relied on her and many became good friends with whom she never lost contact.
She loved to travel and regularly set off on adventures around the world. All she had to hear was, "Joanne, want to go...?" and she was ready. Cheerful in rain or shine, she was a great companion wherever she went. Upon retirement six years ago, Joanne happily returned to this area, settling in Salisbury. Delighted to be near her mother, and closer to her family, she enjoyed Northshore theater, golf, movies, breakfast, lunch or dinner out and chocolate!
Her optimism, loyalty and steadfast support of her friends and family never wavered, even as she faced serious illness. She fearlessly participated in clinical trials, hopeful that any benefits could be shared with others as well as herself—eyes always on the future.
Joanne found the good in people and her kindness was always felt. Generous to her core, she would happily share her beloved chocolate. But few dared ask for a sip of her Fanta. That said, you could count on Joanne to offer you one of your own.
Joanne is survived by her sisters, Elaine Mason, Janice Collins and Margie Matthews; nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Her death saddens so many. How lucky we are to have known Joanne—to have known each other when we were young, and as we grew up, playing and working together. We don't have to imagine her laugh, her smile, the strong shoulder and support she could provide. Her family hopes that you will summon her spirit and remember her well.
In lieu of flowers kindly consider a donation to the Salisbury Hilton Senior Center, 43 Lafayette Road, Salisbury, MA 01952; or grab a chocolate cupcake and smile in gratitude for the life of this lovely woman.
Arrangements were entrusted to Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. Due to COVID-19, services will be private.
