Newburyport - Newburyport - Jean Priscilla (Dallin) Doherty, age 102, died peacefully August 17, 2025. Jean was born April 17, 1923 to parents Ruth and Bertram Dallin of Arlington, MA.

She was granddaughter of the famous sculptor Cyrus Edwin Dallin.

Jean graduated from Arlington High School in 1942 and attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She enlisted in the Navy as a WAVE in WWII and later worked at NOAA. She married William J. Doherty. They resided in Arlington, Somerville and Bedford where they raised their four children. They also lived in Manchester-by-the-Sea and Punta Gorda, FL, where they enjoyed retired life. She was widowed in 1995 and lived independently until 100 years old when she moved to assisted living in Newburyport, MA.

Jean loved to paint and take trips to the ocean. In her younger years, Jean enjoyed helping her grandfather bring vegetables to Haymarket Square from his Arlington farm. Her favorite summer times were spent at the family home in Acworth, NH. She often recalled fond memories of family gatherings, her mother's organ playing at church and the weekly church suppers. Acworth holds a dear place in her heart and will be her resting place.

Jean was predeceased by her sister, Ruth, her twin sister, June and her youngest son Bryant. She is survived by her other three children and their spouses: Kenneth of Falmouth MA, Glenn of Newbury, MA and Sandra of Gloucester, MA; granddaughters Brittany, Ivy and Jessica; and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves her special friend Phil. She was a wonderful lady of a past era. Jean's jovial, kind-hearted and gentle nature will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A private ceremony will be arranged later. Donations in Jean's memory may be sent to the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum in Arlington, MA.
