Salisbury - Salisbury - Isaac Raymond Webster Jr. September 4, 1929 – June 6, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, our family announces the passing of Isaac Raymond Webster Jr., affectionately known as "Ray," on June 6, 2025, at the age of 95. He passed peacefully at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Massachusetts, surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised in Newburyport now residing in Salisbury, Ray was a graduate of Essex Agricultural School, where he studied Dairy, served as Junior Class President, earned the nickname "Tiny," and played on the basketball team. After graduating, he joined his father, Isaac R. Webster Sr., working side by side at Riverside Dairy in Newburyport, a family business founded in 1919. Ray enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954, earning the National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and dedicated his time into family life and the family business. He continued to work at Riverside Dairy and became well known for making the beloved Webster's Ice Cream at the family stand—a favorite sweet treat that became a tradition for many in the community.
In 1954, he married Janet M. (McPartland) Webster. Together, they built a life that spanned 71 years. Ray was a man of quiet strength, and unwavering integrity. With a large and lively household, raising seven children with Janet and the joy brought by each of his 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Ray found joy in simple pleasures: being outdoors in the sun, a good book, long walks, a well-told story from Reader's Digest, or just watching a good football or basketball game. He shared his adventurous side with his family —whether tobogganing, ice skating or swimming at Country Pond, hiking mountain trails, or enjoying dinners on the beach. At 82, he surprised everyone by checking off a bucket list item —skydiving, a testament to his adventurous spirit and youthful heart. He was a Mason and upheld the responsibility to make the world a better place believing in a Supreme Being.
He was a life long dedicated volunteer at The Pettengill House in Salisbury. Ray was a man who led with kindness, he was grounded in hard work. His legacy lives on in every story shared, every lesson passed down, and moments we cherish in his memory.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Janet of Salisbury, MA, and their seven children: daughters Pam (late husband, Tom) of Manchester, VT; Paula of Portsmouth, NH; Hannah (Brendan) of Newbury, MA; Leane (Butch) of Salisbury, MA; and sons Ray (Susan) of Kingston, NH; Mark (Kathy) of Salisbury, MA; and Chris (Julie) of Salisbury, MA. His memory lives on through generations.
We miss him dearly, but we are endlessly grateful for the time and love we had.
Services and burial will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Webster's family with his arrangements.
