Frank E. Miller, Jr. Obituary

Newburyport - Frank Ellsworth Miller Jr., of Newburyport, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at Avita of Newburyport, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 74 years old.

Born on March 21, 1952, Frank was the son of Florence Eloise Bell and Frank Ellsworth Miller.

Frank attended the Bresnahan School in Newburyport before continuing his education at home under the guidance of his beloved Aunt Julia, a dedicated teacher. He later attended UMass Lowell.

On June 10, 1977, Frank married the love of his life, Carol Smith. Together they shared 49 years of love, partnership, and devotion, building a family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Frank dedicated much of his career to Anna Jaques Hospital, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. He was respected for his mechanical skill, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others. Following many years of faithful service, he retired from Anna Jaques Hospital.

A lifelong learner with a deep appreciation for history, Frank was an avid reader and historian. In his younger years, he and his father enjoyed participating together in the Continental Navy historical reenactment organization, sharing their love of history while creating lasting memories. He was also a dedicated amateur (ham) radio operator and had a passion for photography, always appreciating the opportunity to capture the beauty of the world around him. Frank loved to travel, spend time outdoors, and especially enjoyed relaxing at his vacation home in Maine, where he found peace in nature. He could often be found happily tinkering in his basement, creating, repairing, and building things. His curiosity, creativity, and willingness to help others will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Carol (Smith) Miller; his eldest daughter, Melissa Cotter and her husband, Frederick, of Merrimac, Massachusetts; his youngest daughter, Dawn Miller of Livermore Falls, Maine; and his cherished grandchildren, Abagail Cotter, Hailey Cotter, and Benjamin Cotter, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Frank was predeceased by his sister, Jane Reynolds, in 1994; his mother, Florence Miller, in 1995; and his father, Frank Miller, in 2014.

Frank will be remembered for his intelligence, quiet strength, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the knowledge he shared, and the lives he touched.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff at Avita of Newburyport for the kindness, dignity, and exceptional care they provided to Frank throughout his journey with Alzheimer's disease.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 7, 2026 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Frank's service and burial will be private.
