Barefoot Bay, FL - Francis E. "Gene" Terry, 89, passed away peacefully on Sept 21, 2019 at the Sebastian River Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne (Blais) Terry, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born on Sept 9, 1930 in Manhattan NY and raised in Bayside Queens, Gene was the son of the late George N. and Gladys (Bennett) Terry. He later moved to Amesbury where he graduated Amesbury High School in 1950. In Amesbury he met his wife Anne Blais, where they were married in 1952 and made their home. He attended Boston University and entered the Army and served honorably in the Korean War, 3rd MP Co., reaching the rank of sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. Gene made his home in Amesbury for most of his life and was employed in sales management for many years with Maurice Concrete and Cado Fabrications in Amesbury. Gene was also a trained and talented watchmaker. He served many satisfied clients and collectors of timepieces, specializing in fine pocket watches and case clocks. His talent, craftsmanship, and attention to detail in that trade was admired by his family as he labored happily over his watch bench while listening to the Bruins game broadcast. He followed the Boston sports teams and for many years enjoyed a competitive game of tennis. He enjoyed a fine meal and good wine along with a good conversation about any topic. Following his retirement he enjoyed his time in his home in Barefoot Bay, Fla., where he made many friends and enjoyed many rounds of golf at "The Bay". Throughout much of his life, Gene had a passion for the game of golf and made many friends through his years spent as a member of the Amesbury, Exeter, and Barefoot Bay Country Clubs. He was serious about his golf and enjoyed the competitive nature of the game that challenged the player to overcome their own challenges. He taught us you are meant to play the ball as it lies, a fact that helps us all with our own objective approach to life. Gene was a generous man who loved his family unconditionally. He was always there with pride to applaud his family's success and would be quick to reach out and offer to help in times of need. He greeted everyone as a friend and will always be remembered for his warm heart.
Surviving family include his son Bruce Terry and his wife, Pamela of Palm Bay, Fla.; daughter, Brenda Schrempf and her husband, Donald Schrempf of Seabrook NH, son, Brian Terry and his wife, Linda Terry of Amesbury MA, daughter, Virginia Chapinski and her husband, Adam Chapinski of Seabrook NH, and son, Scott Terry and his wife, Lynne of South Hampton NH. He leaves behind 12 beloved grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition he is survived by his sister Gail Foreman and her husband Jack Foreman of Sutton. He was predeceased by his sister Virginia Terry of Bayside, N.Y.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Gene's life in Amesbury on Saturday, October 19th from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home at 118 Friend Street, Amesbury, with a private burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sebastian Medical Center for their care. If you wish, in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.

We feel honored& blessed to call Gene and his family, Bruce, Gina & Scott, special friends to whom we share our deepest regrets on his loss while celebrating a life so well lived

There is a special place for a man, who even though his family was large, opened his arms and welcomed a child who was a friend of his own children. Mr & Mrs Terry both, were exceptional people and parents. So often they were a refuge for me growing up. I am so very thankful to have had them in my adolescent life.
