F. Arthur Chaisson, Jr. Obituary

Newburyport - Francis "Arthur" Chaisson Jr, a beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at home, on December 31, 2025 with his family by his side at the age of 91.

He was born on July 24, 1934 in Newburyport, MA. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 3 years prior to joining the National Security Agency (NSA) where he traveled with his wife and children around the world for many years.

His strong work ethic, accomplishments and passions were a hallmark of his career. After retiring to his hometown of Newburyport, MA, Arthur spent much of his time on the river of his youth. He was a founding partner of the Boatworks Marina, which later became the Newburyport Yacht Club; worked on the river as a Deputy Harbormaster for the City of Newburyport for 24 years; and was a life member of the North End Boat Club. During his years on the river, he became the "go-to" man for local boating knowledge and expertise of the Merrimac. Arthur was a life-long member of the Newburyport Elks and a renowned card player in many local circles.

A natural storyteller, Arthur loved to share how his lifelong marriage to his wife, Patricia, was a relationship built on love, trust, devotion, shared values and fortitude. She was his anchor, travel partner and co-decision maker. Together, they worked to make a stable home for their family wherever they were stationed. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him; however, his valuable stories and rich life experiences remain in our hearts eternally.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Patricia Chaisson; son Michael Chaisson (Dina) of Maine; daughter, Cheryl Hawkes (Fred) of New Hampshire; son Mark Chaisson (Eileen) of Newburyport; son, David Chaisson (Matthew) of Newburyport; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, siblings, Paul Chaisson, Lawrence Chaisson, Carolyn Shephard (Dave), Catherine Jackson (Scott), and Betty Tilley (Blyn). He is preceded in death by both parents; Arthur Francis Chaisson and Irene Froton-Chaisson; siblings, Anne Marie Manson (Donald), Pat Fern, (Oscar), Irene Crisham, (Robert), Leonard Chaisson, (Barbara), Suzanne Chaisson-Reed and Gilbert Chaisson, as well as former sisters in-law Carol Pratt-Chaisson (Paul) and Andrea Karston-Chaisson (Lawrence). Family was very important to him and he cherished the bonds he shared with both those still with us and those who have gone before him.

A Celebration of Life, open to all on Saturday June 27, 2026 at the Newburyport Yacht Club. Current services will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Chaisson's family with his arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice in Arthur's name to celebrate his legacy of service and community.
