Newburyport - Elaine Marie Cox,83, passed away peacefully at Advinia Care in Newburyport on January 14, 2026. She was born in Winthrop, MA on October 10, 1942 to the late William and Mary (Downs) Lawson.
Elaine attended Salem State College making life long friends along the way, while receiving a degree in teaching.
Elaine started her career at the Belleville school in 1965. Through out her career she worked at the Kelley Davenport and then back to the Bresnahan School. Here fondest memories at the Kelley and Davenport, where she mentored many underprivileged children. Whether it was a hug, lunch, snack, and a hand to hold if need be. She was always there for her students.
Her students loved her patience, silliness, sense of humor and generosity.
She was a lover of late nights, summers sitting on the deck with a good book and a cup of tea and naturally San Diego.
Most of all, Elaine loved and cherished her three grandchildren. They were her world.
Elaine leaves behind two daughters, Melissa Cox (Richard Centrella) and Andrea Middleton, two granddaughters Amanda Bautista(Giovanni Bautista) Abigail Middleton, and a great-grandson, Liam Bautista; a sister-in-law, Beth Lawson, two nephews Jon Imig and Wesley Lawson, as well as grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Billy Lawson and her grandson, Cody Centrella.
Lastly we would like to thank Adivina Care in Newburyport for their care and compassion.
