Newburyport, MA - Mr. Edmund F. O’Connell, Jr, age 72, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 14th. He was the former husband of Jan M. (Hayes) O’Connell.

Born in Everett, raised in Winthrop, he was the son of the late Edmund F. and Mary (McNeil) O’Connell. A veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era Mr. O’Connell worked for many years as an IT specialist with Amtrak. He had been previously employed with Eastern Airlines. His grandchildren and children were the priority in his life, known as the family handyman. Mr. O’Connell was a fan and follower of Elvis Presley.

He is survived by his six children, Eddie O’Connell and his wife Lynn of Saugus, Jenn O’Connell Mack and her husband, Drew of Lynn, Joanne O’Connell of Lynn, Steve O’Connell and his wife, Kendalle of Haverhill, Chris O’Connell of Saugus and Dan O’Connell and his wife, Caroline of Beverly, nine grandchildren. Mr. O’Connell was the brother of Matthew O’Connell of Winthrop, Maureen Kilroy of Weymouth, Mary Alice Miller of Laconia, NH and the late Billy O’Connell and John O’Connell. He is also survived by his companion, Barbara Sager of Haverhill.

Visiting hours will be held in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., Saugus, on Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives & friends invited.
