Dorothy "Jean" Short Obituary
ROWLEY - Dorothy "Jean" (McKenzie) Short, 91, of Ocean Avenue, died peacefully early Saturday, April 1, 2023, in the Advinia Care Convalescent Center in Newburyport with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Paul C. Short who she shared fifty-four years of marriage until his passing in 2006.
Jean was born in Melrose, on January 27, 1932, one of the two children of the late Abram and Arlene D. (McIntire) Ames.
She was raised in Lynn and attended Lynn public schools and the Chelsea Soldiers Home Nursing Program. She was later employed as an LPN at the former Danvers State Hospital, retiring in 1987. In her retirement she developed a passion for jewelry design and was a member of the local 'Artisans in the Open.'
Jean created a very welcoming home where the friends of her children were always welcome. Her house became the unofficial "Headquarters of the Rowley's East End". Clearly, the biggest joy in her life were her grandchildren and most recently her great-granddaughter.
She is survived by a son, David P. Short of Rowley; two daughters, Dianne P. Short of Rowley, Linda E. Seel and her husband Bruce of Barre, VT; two grandchildren,
Eric D. Seel and his wife Tess of Williston, VT, Hillary Seel and her husband Matt Renaud of Hardwick, VT; great-granddaughter, Ruby Jean Renaud, foster Grandson Htun Sein of Jericho, Vt and several nephews and nieces. She is also survived by a very dear cousin Russell "Jim" Tarason of S. Berwick, Maine. She was the twin sister of the late Joan McKenzie formerly of Lynn.
Her funeral service will be held Friday, April 7 at 11 a.m. graveside in the Main Street, Cemetery, Rowley. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Rowley Grange, 29 Central Street, Rowley, MA 01969. To send a condolence please visit whittier-porter.com
