Salisbury, MA - Dave would like everyone to know his term as Salisbury Beach's ambassador has come to an end. While he thoroughly enjoyed greeting everyone that came into the Salisbury Discount House at Salisbury Beach as either "Captain" or "Sunshine"- the store he and his wife have run for 50 years, he has been offered a position he can't refuse from a place he will not be returning. His wife and family will continue their 50 year tradition of welcoming people to the beach although replacing his heart and smile will be impossible.
Dave cared most about his family, his friends and his business. He was so proud of being born and raised in Pottsville, Pa. and would talk about his childhood fondly. Dave was a story teller and would regale anyone who pulled up a chair next to him with the adventures he enjoyed thru-out his life, whether as a young boy scrabbling for coal off the railroad tracks behind his house, his isolated tour in Korea during his Air Force service which he took great pride in, hustling for bargains for the store, being a founding and lifetime member of the Methuen Exchange Club or his adventures at Foxwoods. He will also be greatly missed by all the 4-legged friends that came for a visit and a treat on their daily walks. We expect that he will be sharing his stories in heaven while driving around in his favorite vintage Lincoln Continental.
He leaves the love of his life, his wife Sandra Giordano Sheafer, his life and business partner for 55 years; his son, David E. Sheafer, his daughter, Lisa Newman, her husband, Michael Newman and their two children; his grandsons, Michael and Christopher who were his favorite apprentices at the store and the source of his greatest pride and joy. He was predeceased by his parents David L. and Anna Nojohnus Sheafer.
He leaves us with these Daveisms: Always have an emergency $20 in your wallet, never travel with less than ½ tank of gas, look people in the eye, work hard, if you are 5 minutes early you are on time and if you are on time you are late, and greet everyone with a smile.
In lieu of flowers, Dave would be proud to have donations made in his name to either the Salisbury Beach Partnership Carousel Fund at 98 Elm St, Salisbury, MA 01952 or Methuen Exchange Club, Inc at P.O. Box 1008, Methuen, MA 01844.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Star of the Sea Church of the Holy Family Parish, 18 Beach Road, Salisbury. There will be no visiting hours and burial will be private for the family. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.

When my son was about three he asked him if he would give him a job. He was so stunned that he paid him two dollars to move some small boxes. It is an awesome memory

Salisbury Beach will never be the same, what a great guy and world class sense of humor. Shared many a booming laugh back in the Frolics heyday. Sadden but maybe playing cards with my dad now. I'm so sorry to hear of this loss.
