Kingston - David E Mears passed away December 5, 2023, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH.
David was born June 23, 1943 in Lynn, MA; the oldest son of Edward F Mears, Jr and Barbara Handy Mears. At the age of 14, together with his family, David moved to West Newbury, MA. He attended and graduated from Pentucket Regional High School, making lifelong friends. Friends that shared his love of nature, hunting, fishing and gardening. David met the love of his life and future wife, Margaret (Peggy) Doyle , at Yolanda's Restaurant. Where she worked as a waitress and he went everyday for coffee. They married May 7, 1966 and settled in Newburyport, starting their family.
Shortly after David began his career as a police officer for the City of Newburyport. While on the job he attended North Shore Community College, earning an associate degree in criminal justice. He enjoyed being a "people's cop", especially working nights and walking the beat downtown. It was early in the 1980's and computers were the "new" thing. David left the police force and joined a start-up company; Computer Emporium, Inc. There he developed computer programs automating parking tickets for several Massachusetts communities.
Later, David and Peggy would move to Kingston, NH and David would keep busy working for Williams Damsel, restoring furniture and antiquing.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy and their 5 children. Mary Piretti & husband John, David E Mears, Jr, Kimberly Herrick, Heather Hagar & husband Dale, Michael Mears & grandson Ryan (raised by David & Peggy)
Grandchildren: Teddy, Patrick, Melissa, Shayna, Aaron, Issac, Curtis, Clarissa, Kehley, Ceara, Devon, Brandon, Davia, and several great grandchildren.
His sisters: Linda Mears Blood and Elizabeth Mears Tingley, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
For his love of flowers, flowers are accepted.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH.
A memorial service will follow on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
