Seabrook - David F. Downs, 82, of Seabrook, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. He was born in Amesbury, MA, on May 9, 1942, to the late John and Dorothy (Bodwell) Downs. He shared more than 30 years of marriage with his loving wife, Helen (Ruhp), at the time of his passing.

David attended Amesbury schools and graduated from Amesbury High School with the class of 1960. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably until 1962 as a parachute rigger. Upon returning home, he worked as a machinist before beginning his career in public service as an officer with the Seabrook Police Department. He later transitioned to the Seabrook Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter and EMT for many years, retiring as a captain in 2002.

A dedicated community member, David was involved in several organizations, including the St. James's Masonic Lodge in Hampton and the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post 70. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and working with his hands, always busy tinkering and fixing things. David will be remembered for his easy-going and kind nature, his constant activity, and his unwavering willingness to help others.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; his stepchildren, Cheryl Wills, Sharon Locke, and Brian Locke and his wife, Robin; his granddaughter, T-Ann Downs; and his brothers, Ralph Downs and his wife Leah and Roy Downs. He also leaves behind his step-grandchildren, Tiffany Barrett, Robynne Gill, and Seth Hutchins; as well as his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

David was predeceased by his son, David R. Downs, and his siblings, Sandra and John.
