Newburyport - Clare Catherine Cronin, 101, of Newburyport, passed on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Clare Beirne was born in Lawrence, MA on September 28, 1923 and brought up in a traditional Irish family. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and McIntosh Business School. Clare met her future husband John Cronin during World War 2 at Hampton Beach while he served in the Coast Guard, marrying in 1949 and settling in Andover.

Prior to her marriage, Clare worked at the Massachusetts Electric Company. Upon marriage Clare became a home maker. Clare was predeceased by John in 1965. Clare re-entered the work force working for both the Andover School Department and Town of Andover as an Administrative Assistant.

Clare was a member of the St. Clare League of Catholic Women, St. Augustine Parish and the Shawsheen Village Women's Club. Upon retirement Clare moved to Newburyport after living in the Shawsheen Village area of Andover for 44 years. Clare was the only child of Joseph and Kathryn (Darcy) Beirne of Lawrence and Andover.

Clare is survived by her son, Robert and Susan Cronin of Newburyport and an extended family of Ms. Faye Moyer, Benjamin and Kate (Devlin) Moyer and their daughter Scout. Clare enjoyed her typewriter sending notes and thoughts to friends and family. In later years she enjoyed reading various catalogs, sending gifts to family and friends.
