Kingston - Christine "Tina" Hawkins age 77 years, of Kingston, NH and longtime resident of Newburyport, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2021 at her home with her son and daughter by her side. Tina was born on June 28, 1943 in Newburyport. Daughter of Lawrence and Eileen "Peppi" Lofaro.
Tina was a longtime employee, of 39 years at Opportunity Works in Newburyport. She put her heart and soul into her work, and it was her true passion and inspiration. For years you could see her posting bids during the annual charity auction and those there would remember the backstage shenanigans that she surely would be in the center of.
The "Opp-Shop" played a big role in her life, providing her with fulfilment and pride. Whether it was as a job coach or working in the green room, she loved being with her individuals.
Tina had a dynamic personality that touched all those that knew her. She was extremely thrifty and frugal. Throughout her life, Tina was able to develop a unique and creative talent for fixing or repurposing anything. Tina had a strong and proud character. She could be stubborn and tough, and you always knew where you stood with Tina, but she was fiercely loyal to those she loved. She cherished family gatherings and the many traditions shared, such as the fish fry on Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving dinner and the Yankee Homecoming Parade. Recently she enjoyed attending the annual Feast of St. Anthony in Boston's North End with her family. She gained local neighborhood fame dressing as the Witch of Lime Street where she loved spooking the trick-or-treaters every Halloween.
Tina was a 3-time cancer survivor, first diagnosed in the early 1990s, and againtwo2 more times the following 20 years, which she fought bravely throughout treatment, beating it each time. Sadly, cancer returned a fourth time and took Tina from us, but her grit and no-nonsense approach to the challenges of facing cancer four times in her life are heroic and inspirational.
Tina is survived by her son, David Hawkins, his wife, Katie Hawkins of Newbury, MA and their daughter Amanda Hawkins of Beverly; and Tina's daughter Dawn Perry, her husband Russell Perry and their children, Emily Perry and Sarah Perry of Kensington, NH. She also leaves behind her brothers; John Lofaro, Larry Lofaro, Jim Lofaro and his wife, Christine Lofaro and Joe Lofaro as well many more loving extended family members.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St. Exeter NH from 5 to 7 p.m.
