Newburyport - Newburyport - Arthur Shahian, 89, of Newburyport passed away on June 2, 2025 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill.

Arthur was born in Haverhill on September 5, 1935; he was the son of Mihran and Elizabeth (Chakmanian) Shahian and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1953. He then graduated from Worcester Poly Tech (WPI) and attended Syracuse University Graduate School where he met his wife Marlene who attended Syracuse as well. His longtime career was working for Western Electric and Bell Labs as an engineer.

Arthur enjoyed traveling the world with his wife almost as much as entertaining at their cottage on Big Island Pond in Hampstead. He played tennis at Cedardale and was a longtime member of the Early Bird Tennis Association. Arthur was known to be an excellent cook especially his grilled lamb, delicious breakfasts and decadent desserts. He was also an avid Bridge player and played in many tournaments. Art will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had many many friends who he loved to entertain and cook for as well. He was the perfect host.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 67 years Marlene (Lambert) Shahian, his son Gregg J. and Maryann Shahian of Hopkinton, his daughter, Michelle Shahian of Amesbury. He also leaves behind his sister, Marilyn Shahian, and his grandchildren, Arianna Gynan, Thomas Arthur Gynan, Lauren Shahian-Lee and Danielle Shahian. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Shahian.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, June 10th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
