William "Bill" Smith's Story
William Smith McCormick "Bill" was born in Springfield on March 6, 1951 and passed away peacefully on Thursday alongside his loved ones. Bill was the loving and devoted husband of 18 years to Clare McCormick of Adare, Ireland; brother to Peter and Ellen McCormick of Collingswood, N.J., Ann McCormick of Newmarket, New Hampshire, Katherine McCormick and Michael Ablowich of Greenland, N.H. and Michael and Stella McCormick of Newburyport. Bill was a loving uncle to Casey, Megan, Hannah and Jack McCormick and Connor Ablowich; and had a large extended family in Limerick, Ireland, including his parents in-law, Thomas and Christina Fitzgerald. Born to Michael and Marcelle McCormick, Bill was raised in Andover, graduated from Andover High School, and attended the University of New Hampshire. Bill devoted his life to helping the homeless and people suffering with addictions and changed many lives in his work. An avid car enthusiast, Bill enjoyed long rides with Clare along the New England coast in his Corvette and attending car shows. He was a diehard Patriots fan and never missed a game alongside family and friends. More than anything, Bill enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and many friends and taking trips to Ireland. He will be sorely missed by all.
