Susan Nancy's Story
Susan Nancy Griffin, 75, a longtime resident of Newburyport, died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at her family home in Seabrook, N.H.
She was born in Worcester, Mass. on March 21, 1941 to the late Edward S. and Norma L. (Whitcher) Hughes. She was raised in Michigan and was a graduate of Birmingham High School. She met her future husband, Taylor Griffin in Michigan in 1962, the couple were married in 1970 and lived in several Massachusetts towns settling in Newburyport in 1982. Susan was a probation officer in Orange, a Social Worker for the State of Massachusetts and achieved her M.Ed. from Leslie College while working tirelessly as a social worker. She continued as a Social Worker for 25 years until her retirement. She then became a teacher for an Alternative School in the Wolfeboro, N.H. school system for 11 years, where she was known to all her students as “Miss G.”
Susan was a very private person, in her spare time she loved spending time at York Beach where she summered as a child. She enjoyed nature and was an animal lover, she was also an avid supporter of many local artists. Apparent by her professions Susan had a soft spot in her heart for helping children by either teaching them or guiding them through difficult situations. Above all she was the happiest spending time her husband, Taylor, the love of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Taylor Griffin of Seabrook, N.H.; daughter, Jennifer Cordiner and her husband, Ralph of Seabrook, and stepson, Jeffrey Griffin and his wife, Maureen of Atlanta, grandchildren, James and Kathleen Cordiner, and Channing and Patrick Griffin. She was predeceased by her daughter Angelina K. Morningstar Griffin.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950. Services and Burial will be private.
