Ruth E. (Simms)'s Story
Ruth (Simms) Sears, just 15 days from her 98th birthday, passed quietly at the Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation on Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 2017. She was the devoted wife of the late Harry E. Sears, who passed on January 21, 2008.
The only child of the late William and Mabel (Killam) Simms, she was born in Quincy and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1937.
She worked hand in hand with her husband Harry on their family farm on South Hampton Road in Amesbury.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sheila A. Sunman and husband Richard of Newbury; three dearly beloved grandchildren, Marcia Sunman, David Sunman and Richard S. Sunman and longtime companion, Sarah Yacubacci; and a great-grandson, Derrick McNutt. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Ricky Sunman and her half-sister, Harriet Ouellette.
Ruth’s life passion was her family. They were her source of inspiration and love, her reason for everything she did in her life. Her joy came from seeing her family happy and being part of their lives. It was in doing for them that she derived her greatest sense of satisfaction.
A period of visitation will be held at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 12 to 1 p.m. immediately followed by services at the funeral home and burial in Union Cemetery, Amesbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Newbury Animal Control, C/O Carol Larocque, 247 High Road, Newbury, MA 01951 or to the Newbury Fire Department, 3 Morgan Avenue, Newbury, MA 01951.
