Ronald D.'s Story
Ronald D. DeWitt, age 76, of Byfield, passed at his home on Wednesday evening, October 4, 2017. He was the loving husband of JoAnne DeWitt for fifty years.
One of three children of the late John and Stella (McCallum) DeWitt, he was born in Boston on December 12, 1940, and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire.
He served with the United States Army, Corps of Engineers from February 7, 1963 until his honorable discharge on December 17, 1965 with the rank of Captain.
As a manufacturer’s representative, Ron had an extensive client base throughout New England.
Ron was a member of the Dalton Club of Newburyport and the Hamilton Wenham Badminton Club. He enjoyed reading, gardening with his wife, bird watching, and holiday gatherings of his family. He will be remembered for his kind blue eyes and his great big heart. His life, a quiet, heroic example of decency, humanity, and unwavering love.
In addition to his wife, JoAnne, he is survived by his son, Ronald Tristan DeWitt and daughter, Alexandra DeWitt; his brother, John DeWitt and wife, Janice of Newburyport; his only grandson, the pride of his life, Rand Marcovski, and his father, Aryeh Marcovski, his arguably-sleek canine companion, Clovis; two nephews, extended family members and longtime, dear friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda Noonan.
Friends and well-wishers are invited to visit with the DeWitt family on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. at 12 Summit Place, Newburyport. Donations can be made in his memory to the Byfield Fire Department, 44 Central St, Byfield, MA 01922.
