Robert J.'s Story
Robert J. "Bob" Hanley, 84, of 55 Masthead Dr., Warwick, RI, died on Tuesday, January 24, at his home after a brief illness. Beloved son of Mary N. and Thomas A. Hanley, Sr., he was born in Amesbury, Mass., and attended Amesbury schools. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish and was active in the K of C. He spent many hours training in local gyms as a young man and was active in weight lifting venues. He graduated from Boston College in 1955 with a BSBA, and as a graduate of ROTC was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, later to be stationed in Texas. His early professional life was spent as an internal and independent auditor for small and large CPA firms such as Anaconda, Chrysler, and Scovill, Inc., and experienced extensive world travel. Before retirement he was employed by Foster Parents Plan International and performed audits worldwide. He enjoyed bringing his nieces and nephews unusual gifts from his travels, especially during the holidays. Mr. Hanley is survived by a sister, Mrs. Carol E. Mosley; her husband, Carl I. Mosley; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Mary A. Rumery and husband, Bernard Rumery, Jr. of Danville, N.H.; his brother, Thomas A. Hanley, Jr.; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hanley of Amesbury.
Services and burial will be held privately in the spring. E.V. Jutras and Sons Funeral Home is assisting. Donations in Bob's memory can be made to The American Cancer Society.
