Richard D.'s Story
Richard D. Somers, 74, of Seabrook, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Clipper Harbor of Portsmouth after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Amesbury, Mass., March 5, 1943, a son of the late John and Mamie (Rowe) Somers.
Richard attended Amesbury schools and Whittier Vocational Technical High School and then enlisted with the U.S. Army. He was employed as a line chief at the former USM Baily Corporation in Seabrook, retiring after more than 30 years of service.
He made his home in Seabrook for over 40 years and was a member of the Newburyport Boat Club and the Neptune Veteran Fireman Association, also of Newburyport. He enjoyed spending many riding miles with his favorite canine friend, Jackie.
He leaves his life companion, Gail Magoon of Seabrook; his children, David Somers of Hampstead, Shannon Drew of Hampton Beach, Thomas Magoon and his wife, Teresa of Milton Mills; grandchildren, Jake and Luke Somers, Brittany Boyer and Kimberly Magoon; and two sisters, Beverly Lattime of Seabrook and Mary Ann Turner of Newburyport, Mass.; and his good friends at the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post 70.
He was predeceased by his siblings, June Bagley, Dorothy Prisby, Shirley Gallant, John Somers, Jr. and most recently his daughter-in-law, Dawn Somers.
