Ray Russell Hilwig of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Delray Beach, Fla., lost his battle with cancer on February 10, 2017. He was 74 years old. His longtime companion, Ann LaFortune, was by his side.
Ray was raised in Clark Summit, Pa. He then settled in Marblehead, Mass., where he was a surveyor and builder. Ray then moved to Newburyport, Mass., where he developed a number of unique properties. Ray moved on to Kennebunkport, Maine, where he and Ann owned and operated The Meadow Glen Inn and Cottages. Ray was on the planning board and he was Vice President of the Goose Rocks Beach Association.
Two sons, Greg Hilwig and Stuart Hilwig, predeceased Ray. He is survived by his son, Jason Hilwig of Vashon, Wash., and step-children, Tad Keach of Ipswich, Mass., and Noelle Keach of Merrimac, Mass.
Ray will be remembered for his quick wit, his charm, his love of life and his insatiable energy.
A Celebration of Life will take place in June.
