Michael G.'s Story
Michael G. McDonald, 62, longtime resident of Newbury, passed peacefully Thursday afternoon at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 20 years of Brenda (Janvrin) McDonald.
Born in Haverhill, October 2, 1954, Michael was one of four children of the late John J. and Marjorie E. (Tatro) McDonald and was a graduate of Essex Agricultural Technical School, and then went on to graduate from Northern Essex Community College.
A hard-working, loyal man, Michael ran his own company, MGM Carpenter/Builder and was also a retired fire chief with the Town of Newbury.
In addition to his wife, Brenda, he is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer McDonald; his son, Michael McDonald, Jr.; three grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Shane Grant, Brock McDonald and Emma Grant; his brother, John McDonald; his two sisters, Patricia Farley and Jane Ray; his mother-in-law, Barbara Janvrin; along with nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends. He will be greatly missed by them all, but will always be remembered for his kindness and devotion to family.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport. Burial will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Michael G. McDonald to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
