Mary T.'s Story

Mary T. Tingley, age 92, of Sanbornton, N.H. (formerly of Amesbury, Mass.), died on September 28, 2017, surrounded by her family at The High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass.
Mary was born in Beverly, Mass., May 20, 1925, one of nine children of Peter and Teresa Petronzio.She attended schools in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School with honors in 1943. In 1944, she married Harvey C. Tingley, her husband of 60 years. Together, they raised seven children. Mary was a successful real estate broker in the Amesbury-Newburyport area. She served as president of the board of directors of the Newburyport YWCA, and President of the Whittier Club of Amesbury. Over the years, she held positions on the boards of numerous organizations working tirelessly as an advocate for children and mentally disabled adults. She also volunteered at Our Neighbor’s Table and was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church in Amesbury.
She is survived by her daughters, Pauline Michaud and husband, Bruce of Greenville, S.C., Christine Jones and husband, Bill of Encinitas, Calif., Judith Davis and husband, Rick of Sanbornton, N.H., Maria Hennessy and husband, Don of Newton, N.H.; and son Peter Tingley and wife, Liz of Newbury, Mass. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Albert J. Petronzio and his wife, Pam of Danvers, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey C. Tingley, Sr.; and sons, Harvey (Calvin) Jr., and David; as well as her siblings, Anna Russo, Rose Nihart, and Frank, Nick, Peter, Paul, and John Petronzio.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 120 Main Street, Amesbury, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Neighbor’s Table, P.O. Box 592, Amesbury, MA 01913.
