Mary Josephine's Story
Mary Josephine Horgan, age 59, of Merrimack, N.H., died Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Concord Hospital in Concord, N.H. She was the beloved wife of Austin Dean, and mother of Sarah Daigle.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., January 12, 1957, she was one of nine children of Margaret (Burke) Horgan and the late Robert E. Horgan, and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1974. Mary was going on to pursue her fifth academic degree to become a nurse practitioner.
She pursued a lifelong, fulfilling career as a nurse, and as an acupuncturist, and was dedicated to her patient’s health and wellbeing. Her job was her love, but those who knew Mary, knew her biggest accomplishment was her daughter, Sarah. Mary always had a story to share about overnight trips, shopping, or just sitting at home on the porch together. The bond they had was like no other.
Mary enjoyed being at the beach, traveling, and the peaceful tranquility of paddle boarding. Little did Mary and Austin know that on that fateful day of July 30, when they were enjoying one of their most favorite pastimes, paddle boarding, they would both pass from this life into their eternal life, together forever.
The tragedy of their loss is beyond words, but the wonderful memories of their life that was filled with so much love and joy, speaks louder than any words ever will.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Daigle of Merrimack, N.H.; four brothers, Michael Horgan and companion, Jacy Cohen, and Kevin Horgan, all of San Fransisco, Calif.; Paul Horgan and wife, Donna of Marblehead, Mass.; John Horgan and wife, Michele of Old Lyme, Conn.; four sisters, Patricia O’Rourke and husband, John of Baltic, Conn.; Margaret Quinn and Tucker of Haverhill, Mass.; Jean Doyle and husband, Mike, and Maureen Hardin and husband David, all of Newburyport, Mass.; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport and will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. Verbal tributes to Mary and Austin will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private for the family.
