Mary Ellen (Casey)'s Story

Mary Ellen (Casey) Clarkson, 78, formerly of Low Street, Newburyport, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, at Mary Immaculate Nursing Center in Lawrence, Massachusetts after a long illness.
Born in Newburyport, on April 19, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Aline (Cote) Casey. Mary Ellen earned a degree from Salem State Teachers College (Salem State) and was a member of the former St. Louis De Gonzague and Immaculate Conception Parishes in Newburyport. Mary Ellen was an elementary school teacher at the Kelley School in Newburyport and retired after 35 years of service. She enjoyed the beach, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was the wife of the late Richard J. Clarkson. Mary Ellen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Michelle Clarkson of Westborough, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Clarkson) and Oscar Cruz, Jr. of Merrimac, Mass.; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kimberlee Clarkson of Reading, Mass.; by her brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Suzanne Casey of Newburyport, Mass.; and her six grandchildren, Meghan, Kyle, Jared, Ethan, Emily and Allyssa.
Her family wishes to offer their sincere thanks to the staff at Mary Immaculate for the wonderful care she received.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 19, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Twomey-LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, 978-465-9323. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow the calling hours at 12 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
