Marjorie (Doyle)'s Story
Marjorie (Doyle) Emerson, of Newbury, passed on March 18, 2017.
She was born on August 31, 1927 to Arthur J. and Gertrude (Wilson) Doyle. She attended the Immaculate Conception Parish School and graduated from Newburyport High School.
Marjorie worked at Chase Shawmut, as a school cafeteria worker when her children were in school, as a school crossing guard, and as a police matron. She joined the police force as the police chief’s secretary and worked her way to the be the first female Sergeant in Newbury. She worked the desk until her retirement in 1984 at the age of 57.
She married George Eldon Emerson on July 2, 1950. Their daughter, Gail, was born on September 1, 1952. Dianne was born September 13, 1956. In 1959, George built their house on Middle Road in Newbury. They lived there many happy years. Gail gave them their only grandchild, Kenneth George Morris, in 1988.
Marjorie enjoyed playing cribbage at the Newbury Council on Aging on Tuesdays and loved Birthday Bingo every month. She went out to eat with her high school chums every month or so.
In 2003, Dianne moved back home to live with her Mom and took care of her as she grew older; a very easy job. It was a longtime before she needed care; she was vibrant and active, even when she had to go on dialysis for a kidney disease.
Marjorie led a long, eventful, and charmed life. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Marjorie leaves behind her daughters, Gail (Jon) and Dianne, her grandson, Kenneth, her brother Jere Doyle, her sister, Elizabeth Richer, and many family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Beverley Doyle. God bless her.
