Marguerite Bellavance passed away on January 25, 2017, at Port Healthcare in Newburyport. She was born in Canada on April 2, 1913, daughter of the late Hilaire and Georgiana (Gourde) Haines. She was the wife of the late Lorenzo Bellavance.
A longtime Amesbury resident, she moved to the U.S. in the late 1920s, where she worked in the local shoe shops. In the 1930s, she met Lorenzo, they were married, and made their home in Amesbury. She was a member for many years at the Sacred Heart Church and the St. Anne Sodality.
She was the mother of the late Donald "Doc" Bellavance and the late Celine Lavoie. She is survived by her grandchildren, Brian Bellavance of Amesbury; Kevin Bellavance of No. Hampton, N.H.; Mary Eckart of Vermont; Cathy Peterson of Florida; Michael Lavoie of Dover, N.H.; Mark Lavoie and Denise Lavoie, both of Vermont; 12 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Parish Church, 2 School St., Amesbury. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury will be held on Wednesday, February 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 11 Sparhawk St., Amesbury, MA 01913.
