Lillian A.'s Story

Text size

Lillian Annette (Proulx) Sanborn passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2017, at the age of 91. A lifelong resident of Amesbury, she was born to Clovis and Rose Alma Proulx on August 3, 1925, and was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Amesbury High School where she met the love of her life, Jack Gallison Sanborn, to whom she was wed on June 27, 1944. Together, Lillian and Jack raised nine children at the top of Whitehall Road while running the Twin Spruce Farm, a very large poultry farm. She was a hard-working and accomplished homemaker who enjoyed gardening and canning food, sewing clothes for her children, and providing for the many needs of her large family.

Lillian was widely known as deeply spiritual woman who lived her faith both through her cheerful, radiant disposition and her service to others. A life-long member of Sacred Heart Church and later Holy Family Parish in Amesbury, she served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister for home-bound parishioners, was an active member of the St Anne’s Sodality, a volunteer for the Pregnancy Care Center, and an active supporter of the CAMPS Catholic youth program and the Cursillo community. Lillian found countless ways to share her love for others and demonstrated to all that one’s personal capacity to love and care for others has no limit.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack G. Sanborn, her sister, Lorraine St. Germaine, and her brother, Clovis Proulx. She is survived by her sisters, Cecile Ouellet of Amesbury and Jean Pelletier of Salisbury, as well as sisters-in-law Jane Duffy of Santa Clara, Calif. and Henrietta Proulx of Niceville, Fla., and brother-in-law, Raoul St. Germaine of Arizona. She is also survived by her nine children, Jack V. Sanborn and wife, Lorraine of Amesbury, Raymond Sanborn and wife, Janet of South Hampton, N.H., Ann Fernandes and husband, James of Amesbury, Linda Guinta and husband, John of Danvers, Marcia Sanborn-King and wife, Andrea King of Haverhill, Carol Melville and husband, Gary of Methuen, Lisa Dodier and husband, Marc of Kensington, N.H., Karen Clark and husband, David of Amesbury, and Michael Sanborn and wife Laureen of Amesbury. Lillian was a proud memere of 17 grandchildren and great-memere to 12 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at the Avita of Newburyport and Ascend Hospice for the loving care that they provided Lillian.
