Leona P.'s Story
Leona P. (Carter) Papoulias, 93, of Salisbury, Mass., died Thursday, December 27, at her home.
She was born in Seabrook, N.H., on September 30, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Melissa (Dow) Carter.
She was married for 52 years to Alexander Papoulias, who died in 1995.
Leona graduated from Amesbury High School with the Class of 1941. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Government, six years as a clerk in the Selective Service System in Portsmouth, N.H. Before her retirement in 1985, she was a secretary at Towle Silversmith, Newburyport, Mass., for 36 years.
She enjoyed traveling with her family, reading, sewing and crewel embroidery scenes.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Irene Merrill, Carlene Perusse, Katherine Merchant and brother, Oliver Carter.
Leona leaves behind sisters-in-law, Caddie Carter and Cecile Papoulias; brother-in-law, Charlie Papoulias; nieces, Priscilla Marshall and Laura Turcotte; nephews, Oliver L. Carter, Jr. and Forrest Carter; along with many great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Friday, January 6, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the East Parish United Methodist Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Salisbury, MA. Interment will be in the Long Hill Cemetery, Salisbury. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
