Julie (Shaheen)'s Story
Julie (Shaheen) Tammany, 68, of South Pasadena, Fla., passed away on July 29,2016, with her family and her best friend at her bedside. She bravely fought an aggressive form of lung cancer with dignity and grace. She often spoke of the love and support she received from family and friends, near and far, that made her journey easier.
Julie was born on April 29, 1948, in Newburyport. She was the daughter of the late Roger and Jayne (Kelleher) Shaheen; grand-daughter of the late Mayor John M. and Gladys Kelleher; and the late Abin and Clemintine Shaheen.
Julie grew up in Newburyport, graduating from Newburyport High School, Class of 1966. She attended college in Columbus, Mo., and was a graduate of American Airlines Stewardess School, assigned to N.Y. She traveled all over the USA. Julie remained a member of the K.I.W.I Club.
Julie eventually settled in Florida, living there over 40 years and raised her daughter, Paige, there. She returned to the workplace and was employed by Walmart for over 25 years.
Julie married Edward J. Tammany III, a retired postmaster of Westport Conn., in September 2002. Ed and Julie were long time season ticket holders for the Tampa Bay Rays, and they spent much of their time traveling abroad. As devout Catholics, one of their most memorable trips was Rome, Italy, to attend Mass with the Pope. Another favorite trip was to Cape Cod every fall, followed by a few days in the Newburyport area, visiting family, friends and eating beach pizza.
Julie is survived by her daughter, Paige Ward and her husband, Bill; two grandchildren, Caleb (16), and Cameron (13), of Parrish Fla.; her sister, Jilda (Shaheen) Patten and her husband, Jim of Seabrook, N.H., and their three children, Janel, Jarrod, and J.R., all of N.H.; a special cousin, Robert Rein of Ft. Myers, Fla; and a life-long best friend, Marilyn (Coffey) McKeen.
Julie loved being a Florida girl. She enjoyed walks on the beach, and sitting on her balcony watching nightly sunsets over the Gulf. However, her greatest joy was time she spent with her daughter, Paige, and her family. She enjoyed attending the kids sporting events and being a supportive, loving part of their lives.
Julie’s daughter, Paige, is a pediatric nurse at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Saint Petersburg Fla. Julie requested that donations, in lieu of flowers, be sent to the All Children’s Hospital Foundation, attention: oncology fund, P.O. Box 3141, St. Petersburg, FL 33731.
Funeral is being held at the Brent Funeral and Cremation Home in St. Petersburg Fla. Private burial for family only will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Newburyport.
