Joseph Drexel's Story
Joseph Drexel Littlefield, age 94, of Amesbury, passed peacefully at his home on January 4, 2017, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Millinocket, Maine, January 29, 1922, he was one of four children of the late Merle and Eva R. (Whittier) Littlefield.
Joe served his country as a Marine in WWII. He returned home in 1945 to receive his teaching degree at Keene State and marry his beloved wife, Elsie Florence (Andrasen). They moved to Claremont, N.H., where Joe began his lifelong career teaching. He volunteered to establish a driver’s education program, which ended when he retired.
He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 53 years, Elsie. He leaves behind two daughters, Judith Hopper Brown and husband, Robert Merle of Pickens, S.C., and Ruth Kerr of Amesbury; his grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Elizabeth and Daniel Hopper and Ian, James and Bryan Kerr; along with many great-grandchildren; and his brother, Bill Littlefield and wife, Dot of Guilford, Maine.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Market Street Baptist Church, Market Street, Amesbury, on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at 3 p.m. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Market Street Baptist Church, 37 Market Street, Amesbury, MA 01913.
