John Tamilio Jr, age 85, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 surrounded by his family at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. He was the husband of Marion G. (Dobson) Tamilio. He was born in Salem to the late John and Mary (Fillacio) Tamilio Sr. where he attended high school
An honorably discharged veteran, he served as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War and was decorated by the Queen of Holland. Before he was in the service, he worked in a position that directly supported the Manhattan Project. John was a Firefighter for 27 years for the City of Beverly. He enjoyed fishing and relaxing at his camp on Mousam Lake in Acton, Maine. He had a great sense of humor and loved being with his family.
In addition to his wife, to whom he was married for over 61 years, he has three sons, Ret. Beverly Fire Lt. David J. Tamilio and his wife, Luanne of Beverly, Ret. U.S. Army Col. Douglas A. Tamilio and his wife, Amy of Sudbury, and Rev. Dr. John Tamilio III and his wife, Cynthia of Beverly; a daughter, Debra Lavenson-Routhier and her husband, Donald of Amesbury; two sisters, Florence Agrella of Beverly and Rachel Cross of Danvers; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Robert, Louis, Anthony, James “Chi Chi,” and Victor Tamilio — and a sister, Antoinette Pacelli.
Funeral Services will be held at the Dane Street Congregational Church, 10 Dane Street, Beverly, MA 01915 on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday the 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. John’s burial will follow at Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, 2nd Floor, Framingham, MA.
