John J. "Jack"'s Story
Jack Buckley, 91, of Needham, Mass., passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017.
He was born on May 6, 1925, to the late Margaret and John Buckley, Sr. in Orange, N.J., and grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The United States Military Academy at West Point in 1948. He received his Masters Degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in Aeronautical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering. Jack retired from the Air Force in 1958 after serving in the nuclear weapons program. He worked at General Electric in the space program until 1973 and retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1990. Jack was active in the community and his church in Baldwinsville, N.Y., prior to moving to Newburyport, Mass.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Joan; sister, Gail Barnaby; and son-in-law, Howie.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Flaherty; nine children, Mimi (Dan), Maureen, John III, Mel (Rich), Anne (Ariane), Joan, Karen (John), Bob (Sandy) and Paul (Erin); his grandchildren, Serena, Melanie, Jessica, Danielle, Justin, Brendan, John IV, Austin, Alyssa, Joshua, Connor, Benjamin, Eric, Anna, Kyle and Emma; his great-grandchildren, Aubriana, Vanessa, Quinn and Roenn; sister, Jill Dangler; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer Street, Baldwinsville, NY, on Friday, April 7, 2017. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 47 Syracuse Street, Baldwinsville, NY, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Joan Buckley Scholarship Fund at St. Mary’s Academy in Baldwinsville.
