John Henry Cram, Jr., age 70, of Merrimac passed away peacefully early Christmas morning with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Holly J. Smith. Born in Lynn on August 26, 1946, he was the eldest son of the late John H. and Colatia H. (Teal) Cram and was a graduate of Lynn English High School.
He leaves behind his daughter, Brittany Cram and her fiancée, Justin Dubray of Nashua, N.H., and their soon-to-be-born daughter, Holly Camille; two brothers, Bill Cram and wife, LaVonne of Camden, S.C., and Ken Cram and wife, Maureen of Johannesburg, South Africa; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends. The family would also like to recognize and thank the staffs at Salem Hospital and Pilgrim Rehab for the care and compassion they showered on John throughout his battle with cancer.
A lifelong musician (piano), John was a member of several local bands and had a special passion for playing the blues. Although he enjoyed hiking and mountain climbing, his favorite getaway was Lake Attitash, where he enjoyed years of gathering with family and friends. John was a sports fan with a special passion for the Patriots and Red Sox. He was also a history buff and was never hesitant about expressing his political views to anyone who would listen (and to those who didn’t, as well.)
Visiting hours will be held at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA on Friday, December 30, from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at the funeral home.
