Irene V. (Sevigny)'s Story
Irene V. (Sevigny) Newcomb, 89, of Amesbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill with her loving and devoted family at her side.
The daughter of the late Alphonse J. and Agnes (Roy) Sevigny, Sr., Irene was born in Amesbury on July 4, 1927 and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1945. She was a longtime employee of the former Western Electric, later AT&T, in North Andover as a supervisor until her retirement in 1987. Irene enjoyed being with her grandchildren and watching them grow into loving and caring adults. She also enjoyed shopping, golf, bingo and many trips to Foxwoods with her sisters.
Irene was the wife of the late Edgar (Duff) Newcomb, who passed away in 1970. She is survived by one son, Donald and her favorite daughter-in-law, Trudy; two daughters, JoAnn and son-in-law, Richard Burbank and June Chernik, wife of the late Alan Chernik; eight grandchildren, Sandy, Michelle, Jaime, Mindy, Kristy, Jenny, Brian and Rick; many great grandchildren; her brother, Al Sevigny and his wife, Jackie; a sister, Jeanette Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by her sisters, the late Mildred (Sevigny) Sevigny and the late Doris Sevigny.
At the request of Irene and the family, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irene's Memory may be made to Our Neighbor's Table, Amesbury, MA.
